Although it could be done, AFAIK, there is no way to convert from Windows
to Mac, or run a Windows plugin directly on the Mac.
If that plugin is important enough, it is possible to emulate windows on
your Macintosh, run Photoshop for Windows, and access the plugin that way.

Unfortunately, actions do not support variables, but there is hope. You
probably want to use scripting, which does allow variables in the scripting
language of your choice, typically VB script, or javascript. Check out the
scripting toolkit that is shipped with Photoshop.
Also check out [link] , which is a site that is

If you open a NEF image in Photoshop, the CameraRAW dialog is invoked.
At the bottom of that dialog, you'll see something that looks like a
link in a web browser. Click on it to get to the Camera RAW preferences.
There you can set that the resulting image is opened in Photoshop as 8
bits or as 16 bits image.

You need to shoot raw (or raw+JPG) and open the raw version. In
photoshop, it will initially open in a raw import tool called "Camera Raw".
You can do a substantial amount of "pre-edit" in Camera Raw. Adjusting
for light source, for underexposure, some amount of over exposure,
setting the black point, contrast, brightness, etc. etc., correct for

jpegs are converted to 8 bit in the camera. If you want 16 bits, set your
camera to RAW format, and use Bridge (or Camera Raw directly in Photoshop)
to access the image in 16 bit mode in Photoshop.

Yep, that's the vanilla channel selection behavior. Adobe moved these keys
around on CS4, something I'm reminded when I reach for ctrl-1, 2, and 3 for
the individual channels.
I wonder if anyone can imagine a use for this?
